God bless those of us who have been devastated by the flood. Last week many of us Staten Islanders were down in the devastated areas to help our brothers clean out basements and pump water out. We also needed to gut homes so they could try out and begin rebuilding. The one thing that struck me was the amount of cars damaged. Every car that was in these areas experience salt water flooding. Thousands of cars. I was in the local VW dealer who stores 200 cars in the area. He told me the dealership had no damage but they found the cars on top of each other. 200 new cars destroyed. Unbelievable. I've had 5 customer call or come in with salt water flooded cars. 3 can't start the cars, 2 have started and using their cars but 1 has already experienced electronic problems. Good Morning, We're doing our best but Sandy's destruction is ever in our face as customers come in with their stories of family and friends who lost lives, property and hope. Staten Island lost almost one half of the lives reported in NYC so far yet the resources to search and rescue are not here. Unfortunately we're forgotten once again. And now that the cold weather is upon us, we're worried for the elderly and youth of our borough. But there is hope in prayer and neighborly support. Staten Islanders are coming together to help one another. It is a sight to see. We will rebuild. Keep us in your prayers and thoughts. and if you want to donate please go to the following link: http://salemchurchnyc.org/#/calendar-info/hurricane-sandy-updates

My heart goes out to all our customers, friends and family living here with us in NYC. So many friends lost homes or had damaged property. One church we're associated with lost 2 members. The coast line of Staten Island was destroyed and homes flooded. Our prayers go out to you. We suffered only minor property damage and power outage a short time. Our married kids and grand kids have been living with us these last few days until they get power. We have so much to be thankful for today. Business is open, more to accommodate neighborhood customers and help the community. We've been providing minor car care, cell phone charging, coffee and water. Mostly encouragement that we will rebuild and a prayer. I was surprised to see the attitude of some people when gas lines turned into fist fights. Don't we have enough to deal with? Anyway, most Staten Islanders have come together and stepped up to the plate. The city is getting back on it's feet and we will survive. Guess that's ... read more
